My name is Dylan and I am a current Management Trainee at the Dublin Airport branch. I attended Maynooth University in Kildare, Ireland. I graduated with a degree in Business Management.
My Enterprise story began when I first applied for the role after seeing it advertised in a monthly bulletin through one of Enterprise Rent-A-Car’s many partners, “Enactus”. I applied for the summer internship as I wanted to gain valuable experience in a globally recognised company. The application process was easy, I filled in the application form and applied for the role.
After hearing my application was successful I was invited for an interview with the Talent Acquisition Specialist, Nicole. She was very friendly and made the atmosphere feel like it was just a chat as opposed to a grilling that I was expecting. After a successful first interview, I was invited to the Dublin Airport branch for a branch visit. This allowed me to see first hand the role I would be doing and was highly beneficial for when I started. After about an hour of observing the operation, I had an interview with the Branch Manager. I was successful and I was offered the position.
I joined Enterprise after my first year of college and feel that it has been an amazing experience. After a successful summer internship, I was retained as part-time staff for the rest of my time in college. I also got the opportunity to work as a Campus Brand Manager for Enterprise in Maynooth. I really enjoyed this role as it allowed me to meet new people and allowed me to get to know more people in the company from various events. I had a very successful year as a Campus Brand Manager and even created a training curriculum for incoming interns.
As an intern, you won’t be filing and making tea for everyone in the office you will be gaining hands-on experience and you’ll gain first-hand knowledge of what it takes to manage your own business.
Enterprise is an amazing place to work. You never know who you could be working alongside. One day I can recall the Managing Director for Ireland along with the Group Rental Manager working alongside me as if they were just the same as me. This was amazing to see because I don’t think in any other company you would have a situation like that. Rubbing shoulders with successful people allows you to learn so much and helps you to progress your skills as everyone starts as an intern or graduate in Enterprise.
I feel like working in Enterprise can be summed up by one of the founding values. “We work hard and we reward hard work”. Enterprise gives you the keys to take your career where you want to go and at the pace you want to go. This helps to create an amazing team culture where everyone works for each other in order to be successful.
There are three vital skills you need in order to be successful at Enterprise and for you to enjoy your internship. You need to be a team player as it is vital for the success of the branch. You need to be confident as you will constantly be meeting new customers and new people all the time. Lastly, you need to be determined. If you are determined you can be highly successful at anything in life but especially in Enterprise.
My advice to anyone applying for the role of an intern is to 100% join this company. It allows you to gain so much experience. As an intern, you won’t be filing and making tea for everyone in the office you will be gaining hands-on experience and you’ll gain first-hand knowledge of what it takes to manage your own business.
Finally working as an intern in Enterprise has also provided me with a full-time position after I graduated. I am currently on the graduate programme and working towards becoming Assistant Manager. The internship can provide you with a stepping stone to your career post-college/university. Read more about our opportunities here.
