About us 

Before Enterprise became a household name, it was the vision of St. Louis naval veteran Jack Taylor. Fresh from his time in the service, Jack invested his life's savings in his new car leasing venture, basing its founding principles on those he learnt aboard the USS Enterprise. From the start, Jack's commitment to integrity, hard work, collaboration and camaraderie were the basis of the organisation that he built. 

In 1962, the world began to change and demand for 'loaner' cars skyrocketed. So Jack expanded, growing his upstart leasing business to include a 17-vehicle fleet of hire cars. And, seeing another space in the market, he added a Car Sales division to the business, too. Focusing in on each niche was a special skill for Jack and put him in a great position to move us forwards.

Soon, Jack was setting his sights on the future. He moved beyond the lower level of the St. Louis car dealership where it all began. And he changed the company name from Executive Leasing Company to Enterprise Leasing — paying homage to the aircraft carrier that he called home during his time in service. But no matter how big his dreams became, Jack's focus on customer-first experience never swayed. In fact, his people-driven approach only got stronger. And instead of following competitors to the airport hire market, he created a neighbourhood network, serving customers where they lived and worked. 

For Jack, co-workers were like family — and before long, Jack's actual family were helping steer Enterprise's success. Having grown up inside the business and equipped with that unique view, Jack's son, Andy Taylor, took the wheel as president and CEO in 1991. Andy shaped the organisation's vision for over two decades, growing it into the industry leader of today. He built on Jack's legacy, nurtured the business's potential and upheld its founding values.

In 1994, Enterprise entered Europe. An adventure that would begin in Reading, England. As well as diversifying our availability through globalisation, we also brought further expansion to our remit, introducing Enterprise Rideshare to the mix (now Commute with Enterprise) — an alternative commuting solution for businesses. As well as this, our Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation welcomed Jo Ann Taylor Kindle—Jack's daughter and Andy's sister—as its leader, after decades of service to the family business. 

With the millennium came plenty of fresh opportunity. In 2005, we began piloting hourly car hires in selected urban markets, helping city-dwellers reach destinations not served by public transport. A service later named Enterprise Car Club. In 2006, we launched our exotic car collection. And in the same year, we enhanced our philanthropic position by introducing our 50 Million Tree pledge. In partnership with Arbor Day Foundation and the US Forest Service, this pledge commits to planting 50 million trees over 50 years. 

Speaking of 50, in 2007, we turned 50! In celebration, Enterprise took on two North American rental companies (now well-known household names), National and Alamo. Enterprise, together with its new acquisitions, would become a symbol of success in the car rental space.  

Pam Nicholson, the organisation's first female CEO, was appointed in 2013 and sparked a new wave of possibility for Enterprise Mobility. She was also our first non-Taylor-family member to hold the position. But with plenty of experience across the business, she was more than a familiar face — she was like family. Pam, who began her career at Enterprise Mobility as a Management Trainee fresh out of university, expanded our international reach through a quickly growing network of franchise partners. And she led the way for the Alamo and National brands, taking them beyond the shores of the US and into Europe, the Middle East and Africa. 

With the COVID pandemic taking centre stage in 2021, Enterprise Mobility and its affiliates responded by taking action. We introduced the Complete Clean Pledge to help customers feel confident with their travel. We partnered with Clorox to implement short- and long-term enhancements to our cleaning procedures. And we didn't let the progress of the business slow in the process. We also continued to make an impact in the communities where we live and work. The Enterprise Mobility Foundation launched its ROAD Forward initiative — supporting organisations in tackling racial and social inequality, and also extended its Fill Your Tank initiative. 

Taking over from Pam Nicholson as both President and CEO, Chrissy Taylor made her move into the top spot. Having started the same way as many of our team members, as a Management Trainee, she is the third generation of the Taylor family to guide the organisation, and our second female CEO. She's pursuing emerging technologies, ambitious sustainability efforts and new customer service initiatives that will drive the organisation and its affiliates into the future. With Chrissy at the wheel, a new generation of innovative leaders are shaping the next great chapter of our history.  

Over the next two years, we took big strides. Enterprise Fleet Management became the largest fleet management provider in the US. We honoured 65 years as a leader in the mobility industry with a shout-out to our more than 80,000 employees. Our revenue grew to $30 billion per year. Our fleet grew to include over 2.1 million vehicles. And we donated $30 million to the Routes and Roots project (an initiative sustaining our water ecosystems) through our Enterprise Mobility Foundation. 

In 2023, a new era began for us. With a renewed future-forward approach—rooted in the same principles of our making—we set out on an exciting journey. And launched a new corporate brand across the globe: Enterprise Mobility. The announcement brought a new visual identity, a reignited vision to be the world's best and most trusted mobility company, as well as a fresh and distinct purpose: advance the world, one journey at a time.
