My internship was a kaleidoscope of experiences, ranging from talent marketing and development to event planning, sales, government affairs, PR, and even working in one of the branches — thanks to the Management Undergraduate of the Year Award. It expanded my horizons and provided valuable insights across various business lines.
My initial weeks involved planning intern events in Newcastle and Nottingham. It was my first taste of Enterprise’s commitment to celebrating success and fostering a positive work environment.
As part of the event planning, we organised engaging activities like a game show and laser tag, adding a layer of healthy competition to the entertainment.
I also played a role in orchestrating a festival for the Northeast region, celebrating a remarkable business milestone. The event featured live music bands, food trucks, drinks, and arcade games, and had over 600 employees in attendance.
Venturing into the business and replacement rental sales teams, I gained insights into HGV contracts and learnt about body shops and vehicle repair shops. I then attended a women in business conference which was very inspiring; I heared from female leaders across a variety of sectors and industries.
In week 4, I spent time with the Head of Government Affairs at Enterprise’s European Head Office in Egham, which further highlighted the diverse facets of Enterprise. It was eye-opening to witness how government decisions impact practical business operations. I was also able to spend time with the Public Relations team and learn about the world of PR and what that buzz word really means day to day. Overall, I benefited greatly from receiving an abundance of career advice and mentorship from leaders across the business throughout my time there.
Immersing myself in a bustling rental branch, I discovered the fast-paced but enjoyable world of the Graduate Management Trainee programme. The skills I acquired, and the welcoming team made this phase a highlight of my internship. The team taught me how best to manage a branch, and I learned sales were not as hard as I expected.
My penultimate week focused on talent marketing, showcasing how Enterprise markets itself to prospective graduates. I gained tips on how to interview, create a personal brand, as well as attending LinkedIn workshop.
In my final week, I engaged in diversity projects, attended appreciation events, and contributed to social media content creation. Additionally, I was given the task to refine a webpage designed for new hire graduates and interns to learn about the Enterprise culture —a perfect wrap-up to my transformative experience.
Reflecting on my time with Enterprise, my most significant takeaway is that a corporate giant can have a heart. Despite being part of a large organisation, I never felt like just a number. The genuine care and appreciation for each person, regardless of their role, made me realise that in a successful corporate firm, you can be recognised and valued from day one.
In conclusion, the Management Undergraduate of the Year Award opened doors to an internship at Enterprise which gave me a diverse array of experiences. It has broadened my perspective, allowing me to witness various facets of the organisation. It unveiled a corporate world where genuine connections and personal growth thrive. If you’re a student ready to break the mould, seize the opportunity and apply for the Management Undergraduate of the Year Award.
