Everyone’s used to hearing award presenters highlight the quality of the nominees, but I’d always thought that was to make the runners up feel just a little better about not winning the top prize. That was until we had to pick this year’s Enterprise Rent-A-car Scottish Intern of the Year.
At Enterprise, we believe in working hard and rewarding hard work – whether people join as a full-time employee or an intern. We knew that the summer internship programme had been improving year on year, but this year our interns took it to completely new heights. In all 23 interns joined our business between late spring and summer and stayed with us for an average of 12 weeks. What they managed to achieve was quite remarkable with many of them smashing their training targets. We set all our interns a goal of completing and passing at least 10 items in their training folder, while the average this year was just shy of 15.
Not only that, but all our interns performed exceptionally well against our performance targets too, which is fantastic given their limited business experience, and delivered exceptional customer service – recognised by several of our customers in writing.
After much deliberation we settled on a shortlist of three:
Although each should be congratulated, Adelle Brotherton pipped the others to the post to take the top spot. The prize of an iPad Mini and the Intern of the Year plaque was presented at our annual holiday party at the Airth Castle Hotel. Adelle continues to work enthusiastically for us on a part-time basis and represents us at Stirling University as a campus brand manager.
Well done Adelle!
