I used to have a job at Thorpe Park. Then one day I decided I wanted to work in a business environment and so applied for local apprenticeships in my area on the National Apprenticeship website.
I received a response from Enterprise Rent-A-Car based in Thorpe and was invited to their headquarters for a one-to-one interview with Guildford College who would be providing the apprenticeship through Enterprise. I made it through to the second interview, this time with the managers at the company, and must have done pretty well because one week later I got a call to tell me that I’d got the job!
My current role is as a Billing Assistant in Team Fleet. As a team, we take care of the major businesses that hire vehicles from us, such as BT and Royal Mail. I have a great opportunity here to learn about the Billing and Payments department as a whole, as well as other departments which I will hopefully get the chance to experience in the future. This should enable me to grow and develop and also to decide my own career path within Enterprise.
At the same time, I’m doing Level 2 NVQ in Business Administration and have benefited from a huge amount of training. It’s amazing how much I’ve been able to learn in such a short space of time.
I’ve already had a three-month review and have been told that I’m exceeding requirements in certain areas. I have also been set goals for the future which I’m already achieving. I get plenty of time to do my college work around my actual job and also have help on hand if I’m stuck with anything. I have an assessor who comes in every two weeks and we go over previous work and set new work to do, all going towards my NVQ. I’ve also made good friends within the company and have attended career fairs representing Enterprise, talking to young people about apprenticeships.
Overall, I am very happy with the job and the training provided and I am looking forward to what the future holds and where it will take me.
